As a Pilates instructor, it is music to my ears to hear how people are addicted to their Pilates sessions. Like yoga, Pilates has taken over the workout industry. It is popular with men and women and caters to all age demographics. Moreover, it is exciting to see the influence Pilates has on my client’s health. I love when clients go from feeling the difference to seeing change and wanting to better themselves. It is remarkable to be a small part in helping someone become the best version of themself.
Group Pilates vs. Private Pilates
A group class has value. I take group yoga classes and love checking off a weekly workout. Group classes are a great option to create new relationships or foster old ones. If you are a people person, this option will allow you to enjoy your friends without burning a hole in your pocket. However, Pilates should never burn a hole in your pocket. The amount you pay needs to match the value of the session. For obvious reasons, Private sessions cost more. Beyond cost, privates offer an engaging personal experience that group sessions cannot.
Who Benefits from Private Pilates
During my last year at college, I came across this cozy studio in Bloomington, Indiana, and decided to receive my Pilates certification. I apprenticed Corinna Cosentino from Lotus Pilates in Bloomington, Indiana. She specializes in post-surgical rehab and therapy for acute spinal and joint conditions. With over 600 hours of training from her, I learned how to think on my feet and quickly adjust to clients’ needs. Now I specialize in Pilates for recovery as a method of post-surgical rehab. My approach is not limited to recovery but truly benefits anyone needing a custom approach to body conditioning.
There is no other experience where you will receive more attention except in a one-on-one session. Private sessions were intimidating to me because of their intimate setting. However, I quickly came to realize how valuable instructing one-on-one sessions are. It enables instructors to engage clients suffering from injury or training for their sport. Pilates instructors joined this field because they enjoy movement mechanics and have a great love for helping people. For instance, as a Pilates instructor, private sessions are the best environment for me to tailor sessions and design individual programs for clients to help them meet their needs and accomplish their goals.
Goal Setting
In private sessions, clients set and meet goals. The other day, a client said he wanted to further his practice. He came to me to help with his knee pain. Once he experienced the difference Pilates was making on his knees, he decided Pilates could help him lose weight and be healthier. I love that clients set small goals, meet them, and set bigger ones. It is remarkable how private Pilates helps people be their best version.
